KEMAL & THE SPINNING COSMOS

Kemal & The Spinning Cosmos VIDEO

An experimental collaborative performance exploring multidimensional universal concepts of the spinning cosmos and connection to the source of life through the ancient ceremony of whirling inspired by Sufi dance, the Dervish and Chromoscopic waveforms by Paul Friedlander. The performance fuses real life/ real-time choreographed performance with holographic imagery projected on Hologauze, a thin metal projection mesh. The performance highlights concepts of indivisibility and transformation and explores the transcendental state of being-Kemal. The ancient ceremony of spinning is juxtaposed against Paul Friedlanders contemporary, spinning waveform sculptures.

The collaborative group was formed specifically for this project which was showcased for the first time at Kinetica Museum's 10 year Anniversary exhibition in London this February 2017. It was devised and conceived by Dianne Harris as an experience in transformation and transcendence. All artists and musicians were selected specifically to play a vital role within the performance bringing in their own individual expertise to the overall project. A stunning combination of realtime holographic imagery and live performance in collaboration with an experimental sonic landscape. The debut performance at Kinetica received a fantastic response.

The performance is inspired by and features kinetic strobescopic waveform light sculptures by ex-physicist Paul Friedlander, his chosen field of study as a physicist was in super-string theory and studied under nobel prize winner Anthony Leggett. Paul visualises quantum ideas through colour and motion and demonstrates this throughout the performance with his handmade mechanical stroboscopic contraptions.
